Sagi Art

If Sunnyvale artist Sagi Erez could wrap the world in a blanket to shelter it from harm, she would. But for now she swaddles the subjects of her paintings in light and color.

The surrealistic oils often depict arms, faces and cloths floating against a background that looks almost like tie-dye as the colors blend smoothly.

"Coming from Israel, I'm a child of war and conflict. ... That's why I want to protect the world," she said, adding that she has the opportunity to just that within the universe of her paintings. "I need [my work] to be soft and cuddly."

Because the subjects of her art stand out crisply against swirls of color harmoniously combined in the backdrop, she said she is often asked if the work is digital.

For her it is poetry in motion as she works the brush and oil across the canvas to "flow the blending."

"I'm trying to portray the union of nature and spirit," she said.

She hopes that those looking at her paintings can take away one thing, and that is to "protect this world and be generous to it."
